Newton's laws of motion are one of the first things I learned in Physics. The third law is arguably the most popular, followed by the first then the second which very few people remember including those in the sciences.
In today's newsletter, we will discuss all three and what they mean to me.
so let’s begin.
Just like the laws of diminishing returns which we discussed in the last newsletter here, in the same way, I apply several physics laws in my daily life choices. But today we would be looking at Newton’s laws of motion.
I am excited😁
The First Law: This law states that an object at rest remains at rest and an object in motion will continue to move with a constant velocity unless acted upon by an external force.
My mother would say that only a fool does the same thing over and over again and expects a different result.
There is little to no tendency for my life to change if an external force doesn't act on it. So for the things in my life I don't like, I have to take actions that are different in other to change them. These are external forces which could be in the form of more knowledge from books, courses, seminars, and trainings, or in the form of adding new people to your circle who would bring fresher ideas, or investments for that business that would turn things around. EXTERNAL FORCES.
The Second Law: This law states that the force applied to an object is equal to the mass of the object multiplied by its acceleration. What this simply means is that the more massive an object is, the more force is required to produce a given acceleration. If I want to achieve something great, then I have to put in a great effort. If I want to be the best at anything, I have to be willing to put in more than anyone else. If I want a perfect relationship, I have to be ready to have those uncomfortable conversations. To be knowledgeable, read those boring books, attend those annoying classes, and go over and beyond.
I should also know that sometimes the magnitude of force required might be too much for me to generate on my own hence I have to seek collaborations. The bottom line is recognizing what FORCE is required to move the MASS.
The Third Law: This law states that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
I see you smiling because you know this one😊.
Have you ever been in a situation where you feel attacked because of the tone of someone and suddenly, you realize you are raising your voice as well and being defensive? 😄 This is the reason.
For now, let me tell you how I think of this law beyond my interactions with other people. I think the best analysis to give is the give-and-take analogy. If you want to get something, you have to give something. At your job, you have to give your time and skill to get money. In investments, you have to give your money in other to get more money. To GET love, you have to GIVE love. You can drop your examples in the comment section below or give an action you want me to show you the opposite reaction.
So how do these laws connect? 🤷
From the first law, things would remain the same except you change something but to determine what the action to take is, you require the third law which tells you it should be an opposite reaction and equal but to determine the magnitude of force that is equal, you need the second law to analyze the magnitude of what you want to change and with that you can determine the amount of force required for that.
Now, in reality, nothing remains in the same state because there is always an external force. Even if you leave a book on a table and it remains there, it is because there is a force keeping it there, that force is gravity😅 or it is just not attractive hence noone touches it. I bet you never thought of that.
And when you roll a ball, it will surely come to a stop because a force is acting on it.
Guess what force 🤔...
Everything is not gravity😒, this one is frictional force that stops it.
So what does this mean? 🤷
It means that even if you do not do anything, there are external forces that act around you that you cannot control which is why you can be rich today and even without spending a dime, in a few years - with the same amount of money at hand, you are no longer a rich person. Thanks to inflation - which by the way is an external force that you do not even control.
So if you want to remain rich, you have to gain the equivalent of what you are losing to inflation (Third law). But to do this, you have to apply an action that will bring the gain and if want to be richer which is greater acceleration, then you need to increase the force applied to counter the inflation (second law).
These laws apply to every aspect of our lives and this newsletter is just a reminder of things we probably already know but for me, I can relate them to physics laws because it now makes more sense to me and it makes the laws more relatable and not just something that Newton fabricated in the lab.
Amazing read as always , this would just have to be my new source of inspiration for each week... i was today years old when i finally related to Newtons laws of motion .... lolx ;)
if you want more news outlets from Dominic share and comment what you are reading??lolx ;)
